Rivers Launches 20,000 Affordable Homes

Rivers State Embarks on Ambitious Low-Cost Housing Initiative

Rivers State, Nigeria, is set to address its significant housing deficit with the launch of a large-scale, affordable housing project. Governor Siminalayi Fubara and TAF Africa Global Limited (TAG) have officially unveiled the first phase of a groundbreaking initiative that aims to deliver 20,000 low-cost housing units to residents. This ambitious undertaking marks a substantial step towards providing accessible and quality homes for the people of the state.

The genesis of this project lies in TAG’s broader vision to tackle the widespread housing needs across Africa. Recognizing the immense demand, the company has expanded its operations beyond its home base in The Gambia, venturing into various West African nations. Nigeria became a key focus in 2011 with the establishment of TAF Nigeria Homes Limited.

From Swamp to Luxury: The RIVTAF Golf Estate Precedent

One of TAG’s earlier successes in Nigeria was the RIVTAF Golf Estate, a testament to the company’s transformative capabilities. Situated on 40 hectares of land in Port Harcourt, this project involved the ambitious conversion of previously swampy and inaccessible terrain into a high-value residential area. The estate is renowned as the largest luxury development in the South-South region of Nigeria, boasting a comprehensive suite of amenities.

The RIVTAF Golf Estate features:
* A championship golf course.
* An integrated water reticulation system.
* Underground electrical infrastructure for aesthetic appeal and safety.
* Advanced sewage treatment systems.
* Dedicated safe zones for children and families.
* A modern clubhouse.
* A well-designed shopping mall catering to residents’ needs.

This prior success laid the groundwork for TAG’s evolving strategy. The company shifted its focus from developing individual estates to creating comprehensive, self-sustaining cities. This new model was first implemented in The Gambia with the 5,000-unit TAF City, followed by a similar 5,000-unit project in Sierra Leone, known as TAF Micro City.

Greater TAF City: A Vision for a New Urban Landscape

The culmination of this vision is the “Greater TAF City” in Rivers State, Nigeria, a colossal project encompassing 20,000 housing units. This development is not merely a housing estate but a meticulously planned, mixed-use urban environment designed for living, working, and recreation.

Greater TAF City is being developed in phases by Greater TAF Nigeria Limited, a strategic joint venture between Pricewise Homes Ltd (an affiliate of TAF Africa Global Ltd) and the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority, representing the Rivers State Government. The project spans approximately 1,000 hectares of land within the Greater Port Harcourt area. A significant portion of this land is strategically located along the airport road, opposite the OPM Headquarters, ensuring accessibility and prominence.

The master plan for Greater TAF City prioritizes affordability and diversity in housing options. It will feature:
* Approximately 3,000 units of affordable homes.
* A range of house types to suit different needs and budgets, including:
* Two-bedroom bungalows.
* Three-bedroom bungalows.
* Four-bedroom duplexes.

The infrastructure and amenities planned for Greater TAF City are designed to create a modern and sustainable living experience:
* Robust water and sewage reticulation systems.
* Reliable electricity supply, supplemented by power generators and solar energy solutions.
* An eco-friendly biodigester sewage system.
* Paved road networks throughout the city.
* Dependable internet connectivity.
* Solar-powered street lighting.
* Abundant green spaces, including trees, gardens, and public open areas.
* A dedicated wellness centre for health and recreation.

A Partnership for Progress

Mustapha Njie, the Chief Executive Officer of TAF Africa Global Limited, expressed profound gratitude for the collaboration that has brought this vision to fruition. He highlighted the pivotal role of Governor Fubara’s administration and the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority in fostering a supportive environment for the project. The formalization of the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding, Joint Venture Agreement, and Certificate of Occupancy underscores the commitment from all parties involved.

Njie stated, “Your Excellency, Sir, on behalf of TAF Africa Global Limited and Greater TAF Nigeria Limited, I offer our deepest gratitude. Your unwavering commitment and the supportive environment created by your government have been the bedrock of this achievement. You championed this partnership, and today, we are not just delivering houses; we are delivering on the promise you made to the people. Thank you for your steadfast leadership.”

The host community was equally acknowledged for their invaluable warmth and cooperation, which are considered the “heart of this new city.”

The success of Greater TAF City is also attributed to the dedication of the TAF Africa Global team, including Pricewise Homes Ltd and Greater TAF Nigeria. Njie specifically recognized the executive directors, Datubo Pepple and Zubi Arguba, for their instrumental roles. He also lauded the contractors, subcontractors, and partners for their craftsmanship and professionalism, and most importantly, thanked the future homeowners for entrusting TAF with their dreams of homeownership.
